Leadership Traits Business
POR RRHH Digital, 00:05 - 30 de Julio del 2013

RRHH Digital Very few people are natural-born leaders. However, most people agree that there are certain qualities that leaders possess. Many companies train their employees to be leaders based on the following traits:

1.    Leaders are commanding, not demanding. When one thinks of a commander, he thinks of someone who guides a ship. His team is very knowledgeable about the tasks they must perform to steer the ship in the right direction. During times of crisis, the crew pulls together to overcome bad weather or dangerous threats. The same is true in business. Leaders must ensure that their teams are well-trained and know how to thrive under pressure.

2.    Communication is the key. Most leaders are highly-effective communicators. They are not simply charismatic with words. They have a good mastery of language and excellent verbal skills.

3.    There is a common phrase or adage which states, “People are born with one mouth and two ears, therefore we should listen twice as much as we speak.”  Leaders are good listeners. They have their fingers on the pulse of their team members. They are able to reassure their team members when something has gone awry, and fix things before they become major problems. Research shows that 60 to 80 percent of all difficulties in businesses come from strained relationships. An effective leader knows how to involve team members and help them communicate effectively among each other.

4.    Leaders are learners.
Although leaders are often seen as very knowledgeable people, they know a lot, because they love to learn.

Effective leaders also are good teachers. They enjoy teaching and cross-training their teams to enhance productivity. A true leader shows his or her team members how to do a certain task, then asks his or her team how they can improve upon it. The leader does not assume that his or her way is the best way, and invites his team members to show him or her how something can be upgraded, improved or better utilized. Leaders allow others to show their leadership qualities and share their knowledge.
